Approach

The Get REAL program uses both marketing and direct outreach methods to reach our target population.

Our marketing outreach methods include:

  • Mass mailings: Get REAL offers materials to non-LGBT specific agencies and organizations.

  • Organizational allies: We partner with the Community Advisory Board on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Research at Public Health Management Corporation to encourage leaders from other agencies to display and share the Get REAL personal peer stories with their own clients.

  • Internet: We reach our target population through the Get REAL website, our social websites including Facebook and Twitter, and directed mass emails.

Our direct outreach methods include:

  • Street outreach: Our outreach staff maintains peer-to-peer contact in a number of neighborhoods at clubs, bars and other businesses.

  • Material drop-off: Get REAL disperses informational brochures and posters at health centers, coffee houses, bookstores and service organizations throughout the Philadelphia area. You can download some of these materials here.

  • Community events: We present information sessions at pride events, health fairs, block parties and AIDS awareness events.

Group presentations: Get REAL coordinates safe sex presentations and discussion groups throughout the area.
